Welcome to the District 55 Umpire Resource Site

Little League believes in the power of youth baseball and softball to teach life lessons that build stronger individuals and communities.

As a volunteer umpire in District 55 view this website as your website.

The purpose is to pull together all the resources that are available to all volunteer umpires in District 55. The pages are dedicated to District 55, Western Region, Little League International, as well as the local league’s resources. We have tried to include everything you will need from training materials, forms, scheduling games etc. all in one place. Feel free to check out all the different pages.

Please use the contact page to reach out to the district umpire staff to ask any question you may have as well as request additional resources to be added to these pages.

As a Little League umpire, you serve the children and families in your community and gain a deeper knowledge of, and appreciation for, Little League. Once you start officiating games you gain an entirely new perspective on the role umpires play in the Little League experience. District 55 is committed to supporting our leagues’ efforts to recruit, retain, and reward volunteer umpires. While some leagues consider paying umpires, we firmly believe that volunteers are a better choice for our community. Volunteers are more committed to their league and the mission of Little League, and care more about Little League rules and safety regulations.

The goal of the District 55 umpire program is to mentor, support and encourage all umpires to feel confident and successful. We strive to create a positive environment for all players, coaches, and parents. The District 55 Umpire staff will personally help all umpires to succeed by umpiring with you, shadowing you and coaching you along the way. We want you to feel confident when you step on the field. A game cannot begin without an umpire, so the role of our umpires is important to the success of our leagues and these players. When teams see the umpires arrive on the field we want them to be excited and know that because of the umpires, they will have a fair and fun game. Keep the spirit of the game alive, don’t be afraid to give a player a fist bump or offer encouragement. As umpires, we work for these players, it is our duty to maintain the integrity of the game and respect its rules. Umpiring is a tough job, but it is also fulfilling and rewarding knowing you contributed to the community by establishing a safe and fun environment for children to play the best game ever!

District 55 World Series and Regional Umpires

District 55 has been honored to have a number of umpires selected to work various World Series and Regional Tournaments – Below is a link to a roster listing these umpires since 2004

District 55 Above and Beyond Award

These umpires volunteered their time for 15 or more games during the TOC and All Star tournaments. They are presented with a customized embroidered umpire jersey at the district’s umpire appreciation luncheon.

District 55 John Dowdy Award

This award is named after John Dowdy a long-time volunteer umpire in Orange County volunteering in both District 62 and District 55. John was an ardent believer in volunteerism and constantly improving your skills as an umpire. He spent hundreds of hours working games and teaching his fellow umpires. He was a western region instructor and completed the Professional Baseball Umpire Corporation school. In 2015 he represented District 55 in Williamsport PA working the Little League World Series.

This award goes to the volunteer umpire that works the most post-season games as an umpire and is presented with a customized engraved bat at the annual umpire luncheon.

District 55 Rookie of the Year Award

The District 55 Umpire Advisory Committee approved a new recognition that would be awarded annually at our umpire appreciation lunch. The award will be given to a first-year tournament umpire as voted on by the committee.

District 55 Umpire Advisory Committee (DUAC)

District 55 Umpire Advisory Committee is an advisory board of veteran volunteer umpires dedicated to Little League baseball. The committee meets throughout the year to guide and direct the districts umpiring efforts. They provide support in many ways to the program. One of these roles is to work as a liaison to one or more of the local leagues. Another is to guide and mentor those who wish to hone their rules knowledge and on the field skills.
